When you have a tooth that is severely decayed, it may need a dental crowns. Dental crowns are used following root canals to cover the root of a tooth, keeping the root safe from decay. Many patients appreciate dental crowns and how they can complete a smile and hide some of those common problems like gaps, cracks in a tooth, crooked tooth, discolored tooth, and more. In the past a dental crown was a decently long process. Patients would come in, have the tooth ground down, impression made, and a temporary crown cemented in place. Two weeks later they would come back after a laboratory made a completed porcelain crown that was ready to be permanently cemented in place. The issue with the old crowns is the amount of time patients had to spend coming back in for multiple appointments. Fortunately, new technology hit the market, allowing us to make our own crowns in-house, on the SAME DAY. No longer do patients need to come in for multiple appointments, and they can have their smile perfected within a few hours!
There have been some people that are skeptical of the CEREC crowns and if they are durable enough to last for years. What is the difference between the CEREC crowns and the former dental crown method? Here are some things you need to know!
What Material is Used?
The CEREC crowns are made from ceramic. Traditional dental crowns use porcelain, metal, ceramic, and other materials. Metal is important for patients that do have a tendency to wear out crowns quickly because the metal is durable and fuses well with dentin. However, we have found that the CEREC crowns are durable and last for years.
Goodbye Temporary Crowns
One of the most cumbersome aspects of having a dental crown was the temporary crown. While most dental offices tried to match color and shape, some patients were left with ugly looking temporary crowns. A temporary was used to protect the root of the tooth while the permanenet crown was being created in a lab. With CEREC same-day crowns, you don’t need the temporary crown. Most crowns can be created within 2 hours in our office, and we will place the permanent crown right then.
Natural Looking Teeth
When you opt for the CEREC same-day crowns, you have the benefit of natural looking teeth. CEREC crowns are aesthetically pleasing and they will blend in well with your smile. We have the ability to work on the crown in the office, allowing us to alter the shape and size so it perfectly matches your smile.
If you’re tired of all the impressions, dental appointments, and having more dental work performed, its time to try out the same-day crowns from Leavitt Family and Cosmetic Dentistry.
