MEET OUR DOCTOR
Since 2002, Dr. Leavitt has been actively practicing dentistry in the Pocatello area. After graduating from Brigham Young University, Dr. Leavitt attended dental school at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and then spent a year in the Advanced Education in Dentistry Residency Program at Idaho State University.
While working in the advanced dentistry program, Dr. Leavitt gained valuable experience learning about complex dental procedures. Dr. Leavitt served as a part-time clinical instructor for seven years and is one of the very few IV sedation certified dentists in the Pocatello area. Dr. Leavitt serves as an office evaluator for the State Board of Dentistry and is one of the providers offering approval for dentists seeking certification.
Dr. Leavitt loves dentistry and loves to help change patient’s lives with new dental technology. He is always seeking advanced training to bring dental patients in Pocatello state-of-the-art technology and the best care possible. He firmly believes in treating each patient like a member of the family and develops lasting relationships with patients and families.
In addition to working in the office, Dr. Leavitt has had the privilege of donating dental care to the people of Peru and Mexico. Dr. Leavitt spends his spare time with his wife and four children. You can often find them in the mountains enjoying skiing, golfing, hiking, and biking.
Our Services
Family Dental Care
When you step into Leavitt Dentistry in Pocatello, ID, you’ll know you've found the perfect place for your family’s dental care. Our dentist and his expert team works with patients of all ages. Our friendly staff will help younger children feel comfortable when visiting the dentist, and they will teach children how to properly brush and floss to prevent cavities and gum disease.
Each member of your family will be given their own unique dental plan. We take x-rays and recommend bi-yearly cleanings and examinations to monitor your oral health. Younger children need regular visits to ensure their permanent teeth are growing in correctly. Adults need regular visits to prevent serious oral health concerns that could lead to extractions and painful treatments.
Preventative Dentistry
A focus on preventive dentistry helps you maintain the highest standard of oral health while limiting dental expenditures. A partnership between you and our team pays dividends, protecting your smile now and well into the future.
At home, prevention may include brushing and flossing twice a day. But many strategies and oral health aids exist that may fit your situation even better. Often patients are surprised to learn that a particular toothpaste, rinse, or specialized toothpick will serve them best and make all the difference in their efforts. Our team can help customize solutions that enhance your daily efforts, often turning frustration into smiles at the healthy changes that occur.
Your diet plays a critical role in oral health as well. Acidic foods and drinks can accelerate deterioration of your teeth, and certain foods can enhance the health of your supporting jawbone and gums. Our team believes in bringing your efforts and ours into balance for optimum health.
And of course, regular dental exams and cleanings prove vital in preventing decay and gum disease as you keep daily habits consistent. With a proactive approach, together we can prevent minor issues from becoming major procedures.
Sedation Dentistry
The most common forms of sedation used in dentistry are inhalation, oral, and intravenous sedation. While making dentistry much easier for you, it is important to understand that they are not pain-killers, and regular numbing medications still prove essential. But sedation will make every part of your treatment more enjoyable if you’re anxious.
Talk to our office about your dental anxiety and concerns. We will use the right sedation treatment and will work with you to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable during dental procedures.
Dental Implants
Not many years ago, losing a tooth left you with few options for replacement. While permanent teeth should provide a lifetime of function, it doesn’t always end up that way. They may be lost from an accident, deep cavities, or gum disease. And since teeth start as a full set, even one missing tooth may disrupt the complex function of chewing, the first step in digestion. As teeth slowly lean and migrate into extra spaces, wear and cracking from excessive forces often create escalating problems.
We provide dental implant options designed to restore your smile. Working with the latest technology we will assess the current bone level of your jawbone to determine if you will need additional treatments to strengthen the jaw prior to the implant. After the dental implant surgery is complete, we will create a crown in our office and permanently attach it to the abutment, giving you a brand new tooth once again!
Cosmetic Dentistry/Restoration
Cosmetic dentistry deals with repairing your smile and improving the overall look of your teeth. Leavitt Dentistry specializes in several cosmetic dentistry procedures designed to restore your confidence in your smile. Cosmetic dentistry procedures are often tied into restorative dentistry as we use dental crowns, veneers, and dental implants. However, there are a number of additional procedures we can provide to improve your smile including teeth whitening, teeth straightening, tooth-colored fillings, aligners, and more. Contact our office to schedule a consultation for cosmetic dentistry and restoration needs.
Periodontal Care
Half of Americans have some form of periodontal disease. With so many people dealing with gingivitis, how can you combat it? Preventative care is the most important thing you can do, combined with a healthy diet. At Leavitt Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we work with you to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. If you are dealing with advanced periodontal disease, we can provide in-office treatments including laser gum disease treatment, scaling and root planing, and flap surgery.
Root Canal Therapy
When a tooth becomes infected and the cavity has grown into the root of the tooth, it will lead to serious infection and pain. Failure to treat the tooth will only make the problem worse, and could lead to the most invasive dental treatment, extraction. If you want to save your tooth, root canal therapy is a common treatment used. Root canals allow the patient to keep their tooth and be out of pain. We remove the root of the tooth and clean out the infection. The tooth will need to be covered with a crown to protect it from future decay.
Wisdom Teeth/Oral Dentistry
Most patients will need to have their wisdom teeth extracted in their teenage years to their early twenties. Wisdom teeth often lead to overcrowding of the mouth, and many of the teeth do not grow in correctly. We offer wisdom teeth extraction with sedation to help a patient remain comfortable during the procedure. After-care instructions will be provided to prevent dry socket and ensure the extraction site heals correctly.
Dentures and Partial Dentures
If you have multiple extractions, or you need to have multiple extractions, you may be worried about what will happen without those teeth. Shifting of the other teeth is expected, as are issues with eating and speaking. Dentures and partial dentures are designed to replace missing teeth, allowing you to maintain a healthy smile and one that allows you to enjoy your day-to-day routine. We can work with patients with existing dentures to make adjustments and maintain proper oral health for years to come.
