I began my day in Pocatello, Idaho, by having breakfast on a bench overlooking the Portneuf River. Then I went to Ross Park to visit its attractions. My first stop was the zoo. I saw bison, grizzly bears and eagles.
Then I visited the Fort Hall Replica & Museum in the park. The Fort Hall Replica is a replica of a trading post from the 19th century, and there are replicas of buildings from the city’s early days in Frontier Town at the park. I strolled along a wooden boardwalk past a school, a saloon and a bank. I stopped at the Bannock County Historical Museum to continue immersing myself in the city’s past. I learned about the history of railroads and medical practices in the area.
I headed over to Old Town Pocatello to see more historic buildings. The Carnegie Library, the Union Pacific Depot and the Franklin Building were some of the historic buildings I saw on my walk through this historic area. These buildings date back to the early 20th century.
I was getting hungry, and I was happy to see that there were a number of restaurants in the area. Sandwiches, pizza, Greek food and Mexican food were only a few of the types of food I could have for lunch. I decided on a sandwich so I could continue walking around while I ate. The buildings I saw on my afternoon walk were built in the 1890s. The Idaho Furniture Building dates back to 1892, and Trinity Episcopal Church was built in 1898.
My next stop was the Idaho Museum of Natural History. I saw a model of a giant sloth in the Ice Age exhibit and learned how the Native Americans hunted with darts.
The next item on my itinerary was a bike ride so I could enjoy some of the area’s scenery. I went for a one-mile ride on a path through the Edson Fichter Nature Area.
I worked up an appetite during the ride, and I headed back to the city’s historic area. I enjoyed coffee and pastry at a coffee shop, and I wandered through shops selling antiques and vintage items.
I ended my day of sightseeing with a concert of classical music at the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center at the university. I then bought dinner from an Italian restaurant near my hotel. I ate my meal while I relaxed on the couch in my hotel suite.
